Doll-E 1.0 and T-Bone the Drone
Guest Reader: Shonda McClsoky, Author of Doll-E 1.0 and T-Bone the Drone
Author and illustrator of Doll-E 1.0 and T-Bone the Drone Shonda McClosky will read her books and lead the activity this week. Problem-solving and technology go hand-in-hand as these protagonists save the day. This is Shanda’s second year reading at Tech Tales. She will teach youngsters how to draw her characters and then fly a drone. Participants will also fly mini indoor drones.

Computer Decoders
This week we are learning about ‘Hidden Figure,’ Dorothy Vaughn, who loved all things numbers! Computer Decoders delves into the life of a fascinating woman who was a highly respected mathematician. This story describes how Dorothy had to overcome many challenges with grace and perseverance. After the story, Children will learn how to convert a special date into binary code.

Duration: Full Day Camp (M-F) 9:00AM -3:30PM
Cost $800
Create your own computer from scratch and take it home with you! In this super fun camp, students learn to design and assemble a fully functioning computer with all the necessary electronic components including a monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse, and cables. Campers will learn to program, install, and customize the computer in addition to learning how to care and maintain the machine in future.

Today’s book is What Do You Do With a Problem? This story is a heartwarming tale for anyone who has ever dealt with a problem. No one is too young to learn the importance of courage and persistence. Children will put on their engineering hats after the story and solve for how to grab something just out of reach.

Keeping pace with a technology driven world, we’ve developed a hands-on blended learning experience that’s fun, rewarding, and challenging. Campers will learn to build smart self-driving vehicles and smart vehicles from start to finish! Learning design concepts, along with mechanical engineering, they will create unique vehicle designs including the addition of sensors, obstacle avoidance, line and light following and more. Campers will come to understand the concepts of physics such as momentum, acceleration, drag, etc.

We’re not talking about a big snake! Python is a widely used high level, powerful, programming language that is used by professionals in the industry. Campers will create a multiplayer live coding strategy game during this week. They will learn Python while defeating trolls, ogres, and other enemies. Campers will learn to code their character, build game strategy, and how to input different settings to make their python game programming more challenging and fun! Students will learn concepts like programming logic, indentations, methods, expressions, control flow, and more with this project-based camp!

One Giant Leap
One Giant Leap is this week’s selection and we’ll be reading near the Lunar Module replica in the Tribute to Apollo exhibit on the moon floor. Children will learn more about the 1969 moon landing by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. After the story, participants will create their very own moon rover.
