Tech Tales – Storytime for Young Explorers – Ada Lovelace and the Thinking Machine @ Computer Museum of America
Jul 31 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

We’re reading “Ada Lovelace and the Thinking Machine” by Laurie Wallmark and “Rosie Revere, Engineer” by Andrea Beaty this week!

Friday, July 31, 1 – 2 PM

This week, bring your kids to storytime to learn about Ada Lovelace, one of the very first ‘computer scientists’, and her passion for inventions and creativity. We will also read “Rosie Revere, Engineer” which shares the importance of perseverance and never giving up when trying new things.

There will be activities ideal for children ages 6 to 10 following the reading and afterwards, families are invited to explore the museum and its hundreds of artifacts, many of which are rooted in Ada Lovelace’s contributions to computer science! The museum is open from 12 PM to 5 PM on Friday, and 10 AM – 5 PM on Saturday.

When arriving in time for Tech Tales on Friday, one child is free with each adult admission! The museum has large open space and has safety measures in place for COVID-19.

Technologies That Truly Altered History and Changed Lives Dramatically.

Plan a fun family outing that’s also educational! School is different this semester and learning opportunities can come from anywhere. The Computer Museum of America (CMoA) makes it easy to incorporate moments of learning for children and adults alike. We’re offering fun activities around a monthly theme to supplement learning about the history of technology and it’s not just for “techies!”

Family Fun Field Trips are a fun way to enjoy a family outing while learning at the same time! Come experience the STEAM Timeline, visit the Apollo 11 and Supercomputer exhibits, meet our AI dog Aibo and more! Become a member at CMoA when you visit and come back each month (or more often!) to participate in the activities.

For October, CMoA will turn to a lesson on the machines that changed history. Learn about technologies that truly altered history and changed lives dramatically such as the Apple 1, Cray-1, and the Enigma Machine.

It’s Always a Treat to Visit CMoA

Halloween is going to be different this year and we invite visitors to CMoA to come explore the museum dressed as your favorite techie, device, game character or any other fun costume. Families can participate in Family Fun Field Trips – a fun way to enjoy a family outing while the kids are learning at the same time! Visitors from 2 – 4pm can punch a souvenir card on an IBM 029 punchcard machine. Children will learn through tricky activities that Halloween and technology share some common words, and get a treat!
