This Robotics camp targets the beginner. No prior robotics or programming knowledge is required. Campers work on Mindstorm EV3 robots and learn to build and code the robot. Students will be able to build and program robots to engage in various challenges such as robot obstacle courses, mazes, exciting matches, and more. Children will learn the principles of building and programming while also learning how to work with motors and sensors with precision and control.

**All software, materials, and laptops provided for use during camp at no additional charge***

Game Design with Scratch 3.0 Summer Camp

Campers will create their own video game while exploring and strengthening their understanding of the foundations of coding. During the programming logic and game design workshop, campers will learn the basics of game variables, operators, creating levels, loops, and more. Students will design cars for hill climbing challenges, racetracks, and competition with other players. They will also program music for their game characters and even get them to dance!

JavaScript is the programming language of the web. It controls everything that happens on a website like pop-ups, animations, warnings, and autocomplete search boxes. Campers will learn how to add JavaScript code to a website and work on several projects including a calculator, multiple-choice quiz program, and a 2D game. This camp is a perfect introduction to web development, game design, and app design. By learning to code with Javascript in a simple and fun way, your child will be taking the first steps towards understanding many of today’s technologies!

Whether you are a student or an entrepreneur, website design is a useful skill to develop because it is the backbone of every single business in the world to communicate to customers. Campers will learn about graphic user interface (GUI), basic principles of brand design, and most importantly, how to use HTML / CSS to make a responsive web page design. Help your camper unleash their creativity and inner entrepreneur by encouraging independent thinking and problem solving while gaining a life skill in today’s world.

Backspace Does Not Erase: Learn How Typewriters Lead Us to the Computer Age

Want to try out a vintage typewriter and get a sense of what keyboards were like before computer keyboards? Can you type on a manual typewriter faster than you can tap out a message on your device? Experience how the keyboards felt and sounded before the machine was ever connected to electricity. See if you can identify some common keys on keyboards of today that were not on earlier models. Visit Computer Museum of America on Saturday, June 25th from 2- 4 PM and try out a few units and meet typewriter subject matter expert Tom Rehkopf.

Campers will construct houses, bridges, ships, floating islands, and rollercoasters of the highest quality while applying the principles of physics and the effects of nature to those structures. Every child should have exposure to the basics of computer science and what better way to do it than through making games! Your camper will learn to create amazing Galactic adventures using the programming language “Lua”. They will also learn to use features such as a selection tools, zooming, grid-snapping, and flood fill in order to craft worlds made up of actors, gadgets, and spaceships.

Want to try your hand on an IBM punch card machine? Punched cards were widely used through much of the 20th century in the data processing industry, where specialized and increasingly complex unit record machines, organized into semiautomatic data processing systems, used punched cards for data input, output, and storage. Critical record keeping was done on punch cards across many industries and dropping a stack of cards was a disaster. Come learn more about how this machine was used and punch your own souvenir card to take home during the demo from 2-4PM!

Create your own computer from scratch and take it home with you! In this super fun camp, students learn to design and assemble a fully functioning computer with all the necessary electronic components including a monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse, and cables. Campers will learn to program, install, and customize the computer in addition to learning how to care and maintain the machine in future.

Keeping pace with a technology driven world, we’ve developed a hands-on blended learning experience that’s fun, rewarding, and challenging. Campers will learn to build smart self-driving vehicles and smart vehicles from start to finish! Learning design concepts, along with mechanical engineering, they will create unique vehicle designs including the addition of sensors, obstacle avoidance, line and light following and more. Campers will come to understand the concepts of physics such as momentum, acceleration, drag, etc.

Campers will create a multiplayer live coding strategy game during this week. They will learn Python while defeating trolls, ogres, and other enemies. Campers will learn to code their character, build game strategy, and how to input different settings to make their python game programming more challenging and fun! Students will learn concepts like programming logic, indentations, methods, expressions, control flow, and more with this project-based camp!

Computer Museum of America (CMoA) will hold its first Educator’s Weekend on September 10 (10AM-5PM) and 11 (12PM – 5PM).

CMoA would like to say Thank You! for all you do and Welcome Back! to the new school year.  To show our appreciation, visiting educators who present a valid educator/teacher ID will be admitted at no charge.  Admission for accompanying family members or friends will be regular price.

Educator’s Weekend is a great opportunity for area K-12 teachers to explore CMoA. You can pick up information about our tours, activities, and group pricing for future field trips during your visit. As we are also part of the Fulton County School’s Cultural Kaleidoscope program, it is a chance for teachers in Fulton County Schools to preview one of the approved locations.
