Want to try your hand on an IBM punch card machine? Punched cards were widely used through much of the 20th century in the data processing industry, where specialized and increasingly complex unit record machines, organized into semiautomatic data processing systems, used punched cards for data input, output, and storage. Critical record keeping was done on punch cards across many industries and dropping a stack of cards was a disaster. Come learn more about how this machine was used and punch your own souvenir card to take home during the demo from 2-4PM!

Stop by CMoA today and meet Aibo, a companion robot dog with advanced artificial intelligence (AI). Between 1-3PM, a Museum volunteer will demonstrate Aibo’s tricks and ability to follow commands. Learn more about AI including its history, where it is used today, and where it is going in the future.

Writers and Their Typewriters
Ever wonder what it would be like to write on the same model typewriter Hemingway used? Long before Microsoft Word became the tool of choice for writers, the typewriter was a unique middle ground between the intimacy of handwriting and the speed and efficiency of the computer. Novelist Will Self said, “I think the computer user does their thinking on the screen, but the typewriter user is compelled to do much more thinking in the head.”
Typewriter Tom returns to CMOA on January 28 with a unique collection of the exact typewriter models used by many famous authors. From Mark Twain’s Remington #6 to Cormac McCarthy’s $254,000 Olivetti Lettera 32, this is your chance to try them out. Start your next 300-page novel! Channel your inner Hemingway! Use two spaces!

In our National Science Foundation supported research, “Participatory Sensemaking in Embodied Co-Creative Agents”, collaborators from Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State University analyze a dancer’s sensemaking process in an improvisatory dance setting.
This research shines a light on the nuanced and intuitive decisions involved in co-creative dance exchanges. Through this research, we aim to impart invaluable information to design a co-creative artificial intelligence tool to improvise with dancers, while also gaining new perspectives to recognize the deep value of our embodied choices. In this talk, participants will learn about the research taking place between our team of scientists and dance experts and discuss the limitless applications of dance and technology in the realms of learning, training, and creativity.
