Want to try your hand on an IBM punch card machine? Punched cards were widely used through much of the 20th century in the data processing industry, where specialized and increasingly complex unit record machines, organized into semiautomatic data processing systems, used punched cards for data input, output, and storage. Critical record keeping was done on punch cards across many industries and dropping a stack of cards was a disaster. Come learn more about how this machine was used and punch your own souvenir card to take home during the demo from 2-4PM!

Stop by CMoA today and meet Aibo, a companion robot dog with advanced artificial intelligence (AI). Between 1-3PM, a Museum volunteer will demonstrate Aibo’s tricks and ability to follow commands. Learn more about AI including its history, where it is used today, and where it is going in the future.

Want to try out a vintage typewriter and get a sense of what keyboards were like before computer keyboards? Can you type on a manual typewriter faster than you can tap out a message on your device? Experience how the keyboards felt and sounded before the machine was ever connected to electricity. See if you can identify some common keys on keyboards of today that were not on earlier models. Visit Computer Museum of America on Saturday, January 29th from 1:00 – 3:00 PM and try out a few units and meet typewriter subject matter expert Tom Rehkopf.
Free with museum admission.

Computer Museum of America (CMoA) will hold its first Educator’s Weekend on September 10 (10AM-5PM) and 11 (12PM – 5PM).
CMoA would like to say Thank You! for all you do and Welcome Back! to the new school year. To show our appreciation, visiting educators who present a valid educator/teacher ID will be admitted at no charge. Admission for accompanying family members or friends will be regular price.
Educator’s Weekend is a great opportunity for area K-12 teachers to explore CMoA. You can pick up information about our tours, activities, and group pricing for future field trips during your visit. As we are also part of the Fulton County School’s Cultural Kaleidoscope program, it is a chance for teachers in Fulton County Schools to preview one of the approved locations.
